Revealing the reason Carrick is not favored by Manchester United legends! Scholes subtly mocks, his only ally stranded in Dubai.

Following Manchester United's 1-2 defeat to Newcastle United, club legend Paul Scholes' mockery of manager Michael Carrick was somewhat unexpected. "Michael (Carrick) surely has his unique qualities, given how terribly Manchester United have performed in their last four matches. Goodnight," stated Scholes. Shortly after, he removed this contentious remark.

Carrick and Scholes were teammates in 160 games for Manchester United, and there were no rumors of a rift. However, during Carrick's tenure as the Red Devils' manager, Scholes consistently viewed him unfavorably, believing the 44-year-old Englishman had betrayed Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

When Solskjær was sacked by Manchester United, Carrick, Kieran McKenna, and Mike Phelan chose to stay on as interim coaches. Scholes said at the time that he was friends with all three but understood their decision.

"I think Ole trusted Michael, Kieran (McKenna), and Phelan immensely, so they probably shouldn't remain at the club now," Scholes commented then. "They are all good friends of mine and great people, but if I were them, I'd feel guilty continuing at the club after the trust Ole placed in them."

When Carrick initially took charge, he was asked about Scholes' comments. Carrick explained that he had spoken with Solskjær, who supported him. "It's been an emotionally complex few days. After Ed (Woodward) offered me the role, the first person I contacted was Ole (Solskjær). I felt that was the right thing to do."

In this instance, Carrick also secured the Manchester United manager's job for this season ahead of Solskjær. He stressed that he had again spoken with Solskjær and their relationship remained very close. "I've spoken with him. We are close, we've been through a lot together, so his support was expected. He's a fantastic person whom I deeply respect. He wished us all the best and is pleased for United to get the right results."

During Solskjær's earlier managerial spell, the Class of '92 legends were his staunch supporters, vying to back him publicly. Gary Neville famously posed the "three soul-searching questions": 'How many years on the contract, what's the salary, and where does the statue go?'

Thus, while Carrick might have anticipated criticism upon taking the job, he likely didn't expect such pointed doubts from former teammates. It wasn't just Scholes; Roy Keane, the previous wearer of the number 16 shirt, was skeptical from the start. Keane had a conflict with Carrick's wife Lisa over a decade ago. After a shocking Champions League loss to Olympiacos, Keane criticized Carrick's performance, prompting Lisa to angrily defend her husband, creating lasting tension.

However, at least Keane was never Carrick's teammate, whereas Scholes was his midfield partner, making his comments particularly disappointing for many of the club's most loyal fans. Carrick has reversed United's poor form this season, winning fan support. Yet, the significant impact of critiques from Keane, Scholes, and Neville stems from their powerful platform on UK's Sky Sports.

Scholes, Keane, and others share a closer relationship with Solskjær than with Carrick, with Keane being a particularly close friend. Solskjær's former teammates still hold him in high regard, a privilege Carrick does not enjoy.

Neville has been relatively more supportive of Carrick, praising his "intelligence, personality, character, composure, and temperament" just last weekend. However, Neville added: "He is a strong candidate for the job, but United must maintain their current form until the season ends."

Unfortunately for Carrick, the most influential United legend in his support camp has stepped back from punditry to start a new life in the Middle East. Rio Ferdinand previously criticized Keane's doubts about Carrick, but he is currently stranded in Dubai amidst missile conflicts, only able to back Carrick on social media.

Fortunately, Carrick is consistently calm, rarely raises his voice, and seldom speaks publicly. Even amid a media storm, he is unlikely to change his approach. Ultimately, results matter most. Since Carrick took over, Manchester United have earned more Premier League points than any other team, securing 19 out of a possible 24.

As long as Carrick delivers tangible results and guides the team back to the Champions League, external noise won't affect his prospects of remaining as Manchester United manager. However, if he fails, Sir Jim Ratcliffe's resolve may not be unshakeable, as he has previously reversed decisions on Erik ten Hag's future under fan pressure.
