The Philippines suffers a second consecutive defeat, facing early elimination risk at the Asian Cup.

The Philippine women's squad has lost two matches in a row in Group A, raising the possibility of an early exit in the 2026 Asian Cup group phase.

On the afternoon of March 5th, the South Korean women's team continued their impressive form with a 3-0 victory over the Philippines in their second group stage match, virtually securing their spot in the knockout stage of the 2026 Asian Cup finals..

South Korea quickly took control of the match from the opening minutes. The sustained pressure from the East Asian side paid off in the 12th minute when Jeon Yu-gyeong finished neatly inside the box after combining with Kim Shin-ji and Park Soo-jeong, opening the scoring.

Just three minutes later, South Korea doubled their lead. From a buildup on the left flank, Choo Hyo-joo received the ball at the edge of the box before curling a beautiful shot into the top corner, scoring her first goal for the national team.

On the other end, the Philippines struggled to build attacking moves and created only a few notable chances. The clearest opportunity for the Southeast Asian side in the first half came from a long-range effort by Carleigh Frilles, but it wasn't challenging enough to beat goalkeeper Kim Min-jung.

In the second half, South Korea maintained their dominant play and added a third goal in the 57th minute. Following a corner from Kim Shin-ji, the ball bounced around in the box and Mun Eun-ju quickly poked it home from close range, sealing the 3-0 victory.

This marks South Korea's second consecutive win in the tournament, following their similar victory over Iran in their opening match.

Meanwhile, for the Philippines, they remain pointless after their first two matches and face a very high risk of elimination from the competition. Theoretically, the Southeast Asian representative has lost any chance of competing for first or second place in Group A. To advance as one of the best third-placed teams, the Philippines must secure a heavy victory against the Iranian women's team in their final group match.
